About

Few people ask musicians more pertinent or revealing questions than Frances Wilson in her Meet the Artist series, and so the answers of her interviewees are always interesting

Sir Stephen Hough, concert pianist

Established in 2012 by writer and blogger Frances Wilson (‘The Cross-Eyed Pianist’), Meet the Artist is a series of interviews in which musicians, conductors and composers discuss aspects of their creative lives, including inspirations, influences, repertoire, performance, recording, significant teachers and more. The interviews offer revealing insights into the musician’s working life and a fascinating glimpse “beyond the notes”.

Inspired by a series of interviews in Vanity Fair magazine, the interview takes the form of a short questionnaire, loosely based on the Proust Questionnaire. Originally hosted entirely on the The Cross-Eyed Pianist site, the series has grown in popularity to such an extent that this special dedicated site has been created.
