I am an early 20th century fiend. My sweet spot is that blend of late impressionism, jazz, and the steely influence of the Machine Age.
Being a teacher gives another type of understanding of the repertoire which we play. When you also teach it to others you see things in another light.
Never underestimate the extent to which audiences are willing to hear something new, even if this sits outside of what they might be expecting.
There are some composers that I immediately connect with. I can’t explain it, but some composers I know I will enjoy no matter what.
