Who or what inspired you to take up conducting and pursue a career in music? I had a slightly complicated path towards becoming a musician,
To be unique, believe in the power of music, love music irrevocably, try to understand what music people enjoy and not to just follow trends and, last but not least, be maximally objective in what one can achieve – these are the things I would pass on to aspiring musicians.
I think my role – which really is only actually needed when there are more musicians than could comfortably work as a chamber ensemble – is to passionately interpret the composer’s intentions by having a considered and researched view of the music, then organising and motivating the performers to achieve that.
I want our audiences to come away from a concert feeling inspired and moved by this incredible music. If we achieve that, job done!
