I think a turning point came when I discovered Mahler at age 16, that’s when I understood what music can be more fully than before.
Play music first and your instrument second. Don’t let the difficulties or limitations of an instrument dictate what you say with it.
There is no set formula, and I must admit that I am reluctant to make decisions very far ahead. My guiding principles are firstly that I have to be passionate about and deeply involved with the music I am to play, so that I can share it with others effectively
