My compositional language embraces many elements. Most of all it is lyrical – I enjoy creating long melodic lines which interact and create tension with an underlying harmonic structure. Frequently a harmonic structure grows out of a melodic idea.
I always like working with restrictions which become challenges, and like working for a particular set of requirements. Also, the aim to fit the music to the performers. The challenge can be to make something which is accessible yet interesting.
Desire and hunger are the two key elements that I would impart to aspiring musicians. By desire, I mean that there shouldn’t be anything in the world you would rather do than sing.
