Dad Harmony are Adam Stebenlund, Sebastian Åkesson, Tomas Vidmark, Peter Vidmark & Michael Åberg

Who or what inspired you to pursue a career in music?

Sebastian For me it all started with my family. Since my mom and dad met in a vocal group in the 70s, the singing has always been central to us.

Peter Harmony singing! I’ve always loved music and played a lot of piano in different constellations, but nothing is as fun as singing in harmony!

Michael I think I’m inspired by my family, especially my father who played lot of 70s music in our home. He also taught me to play drums when I was really young.

Adam My main musical inspiration is Sebastian. If it hadn’t been for him, I would never have been into music the same way as I am today.

Tomas It must have been when Backstreet Boys hit it big and I was about 8-9 years old. Fantastic songs and idols at that time.

Who or what have been the most significant influences on your musical life and career?

Sebastian The joy of singing or performing on stage is what keeps me going. From all the family concerts we did in my early years came a natural relationship with music.

I kept dreaming about doing it as a professional artist and for many years I played together with my two brothers in the progressive rock band Moon Safari and the shows that we did made me realize how much I loved being on stage.

Peter That would have to be my dad. He introduced me to the world of music when I was very young. He played in a band himself, singing and playing piano, so as a kid, I really wanted to follow his footsteps.

Michael I listened to a band called ”Dream Theater” for a lot of years and it feels like they had a big impact on me. I’ve learned a lot of their songs on different instruments and played them together with my friends.

Adam I think my answer here has to be the same as above: Sebastian. He has such a good ear for music that is good, and he also know exactly if I will like a song or not. Every time he says ”I heard a new song yesterday that I think you will like” I am always super stoked.

Tomas It must be my family. With both a mother and father who were into music. The singing started at an early age.

What have been the greatest challenges of your career so far?

Sebastian Setting up a full live show from scratch with Dad Harmony. We didn’t have that many full-length songs in the autumn of 2023 but had an upcoming show in a few weeks.

From almost nothing, we created a full show and that was a huge challenge.

Peter Finding the time. It’s not easy to balance family life, a “regular” job, and a music career.

Michael The greatest challenge for me has been to combine family life with my music.

Adam The greatest challenge has always been to find the time to do everything I want to do.

Tomas To make my voice last long-term. I hadn’t sung much before Dad Harmony hit the charts and I was 34. Also the nervousness.

Of what in your musical life are you most proud?

Sebastian The time Brian May from Queen posted on instagram that he really enjoys Dad Harmony and what we do…it doesn’t get much bigger than that.

Peter Dad Harmony! I think we have done an amazing job together and I am extra proud over how we manage to take our ”social media”-hype to the stage.

Michael I am proud of the whole journey with Dad Harmony. One special moment was when we did our last show of the 2024 Christmas tour. It was in our hometown Skellefteå in front of family and friends.

Adam Obviously I’m most proud of what we achieved with Dad Harmony. I would never have thought that it would grow this big.

Tomas It must be this whole journey with Dad Harmony. How we went from being just ordinary 30-year-old guys to having an impact all over the world. Otherwise, a big moment was when childhood idols Backstreet Boys noticed us on several occasions.

What do you do offstage that provides inspiration on stage?

Sebastian I love spending time with my family. The kids and my girlfriend are my best support and inspiration. Besides that I enjoy a good game of squash, a few beers with friends or singing a little duet with my girlfriend.

Peter I spend time with my family and work out. Squash and badminton are what I manage to fit in now and then, but football will always be closest to my heart.

Michael I enjoy spending time with my family, listening to music and trying to workout as much as possible.

Adam I really like to play football, run, work on different home projects and of course spend time with my family. My twin daughters are a huge inspiration.

Tomas Our brand is very much based on our ordinary lives and the fact that we are ordinary people. Therefore, the simple answer to that question is everyday life.

As a musician, what is your definition of success?

Sebastian Whenever you achieve something that you aimed for in your own idea of what music is to you. It doesn’t matter if it’s about learning to play a chord on the guitar or becoming a pop star.

Peter Tough question. I’d say it’s the combination of doing something you love and having others genuinely appreciate or enjoy it. For me, it feels almost unreal to be able to do what I love with four close friends—and to be showered with appreciation at the same time.

Michael I think success is making or performing music you love and sharing it with people who connect with it.

Adam I consider myself a successful musician because I get to do what I love with four of my best friends. My goal has always been to have fun, and if you have fun while doing your thing, I would say that you are successful.

Tomas When people genuinely appreciate what you do

What advice would you give to young or aspiring musicians?

Sebastian Have fun, experiment, do what makes you happy.

Peter Believe in yourself, work hard, and have fun! Focus on the things that give you energy.

Michael Give it your best shot and have fun!

Adam I think it is important to believe in what you do and don’t listen to much to other ”know-it-all”s. And of course – have fun!

Tomas Never give up! It’s definitely not too late even when you’re 34. I also think it’s important to find a balance with other things in life. Like work and family.

What’s the one thing we’re not talking about in the music industry which you really feel should be addressed?

Sebastian I haven’t been in the industry personally for that long, but I think it’s really important to appreciate all the creative people that is working with live events, setting up shows and festivals. Without them we wouldn’t be able to play or experience the music.

Adam I think the importance of proper guidance could be talked about more. I entered this industry as a grown man in my 30s with other grown men. I can’t imagine how I could have done this being 18 years old and alone without proper guidance.

Tomas I would like to get more people singing and discovering how much fun it is. I want to talk more about that.

What next? Where would you like to be in 10 years time?

Peter I hope that Dad Harmony is still going strong and that we’ve had the chance to meet even more fans around the world. I also hope that, as a group, we feel we’ve grown and continue to do new, exciting things that challenge us.

Adam I would love for Dad Harmony to exist in 10 years! What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Tomas An established world artist who sells out arenas is a bit of a dream.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Peter When you see no obstacles and have the ability to face everything with a positive mindset.

Adam When you wake up in the morning with a smile and feel ”Today is gonna be a great day” .

Tomas Must be when I pick up my kids from school/preschool. That’s when I really feel genuine happiness. I’m generally a positive person and generally try to see happiness in many different situations. It works well for me.

What is your most treasured possession?

Peter My kids and my wife. Sometimes it feels unreal how much love you can feel for someone.

Adam My kids, of course. If I have to choose a thing, maybe my Makita drill.

Tomas Apart from my family, it’s probably my piano.

What is your present state of mind?

Peter Happy and extremely excited about the future!

Adam At ease.

Tomas A lot to do and think about, but thanks to a fantastic family, I still feel harmony in my body.
