Be consistent and modest, and don’t worry much about what other people say. Follow your ideas with consistency. And most importantly do what makes you feel good!
I think it would be good if musicians realised how revealing it is to play music. You can see people so clearly. That has implications. I would say that generosity is the musical quality I most value: doing what’s right for the music or trying to make someone else sound amazing. If you can do that whilst also being very individual then that’s amazing. But how those two intersect is obviously very hard.

I work best alone with no distractions. My studio, computer and music software (Logic Pro) plus library of sounds and samples – these are my only tools. Curiously, most inspiration enters my mind when I’m not working (there’s a conundrum). Thereafter it’s a race against time to record these ideas somehow so that they’re not lost forever!
The Septura project is not just about our group, it’s about creating a new chamber medium. The brass septet is a pseudonym for the orchestral brass section, and so there is a septet in every youth, amateur and professional orchestra around the world.
